MASON ALEXANDER
American Traditional • Japanese • Black & Grey • Anime
Mason Alexander is a tattoo artist at Black Oak Tattoo in Fort Collins whose primary specialties are American Traditional and Japanese tattooing, along with black & grey and linework. While Traditional and Japanese are the styles he enjoys most, he is also interested in taking on more anime-inspired work and continuing to grow that part of his portfolio.
Mason enjoys tattooing a wide variety of subject matter, including flowers, skulls, daggers, snakes, spiders, Japanese iconography, cartoons, anime characters, script, and pop culture. He is particularly interested in doing more large-scale work focused on Americana and Japanese designs.
Mason approaches each tattoo as a collaboration between artist and client. He believes the best work happens when both people are on the same page, excited about the artwork, and share the same vision for the piece.
Technique and application are especially important to him. Mason takes pride in making each tattoo application as precise as possible and continually refining his craft, which gives him the confidence to perform at a high level consistently.
Tattooing was not originally part of Mason’s life plan. He had been pursuing a path toward medicine when he made the decision to change directions and pursue tattooing instead. Tattooing made him excited and curious in a way that ultimately changed the course of his life. It became one of the most influential decisions he has made—and one he says he would make again and again.
